This film version will not be based on the animated one but be drawn on from the Ballads of Mulan which in itself creates a new world. I’m Friendly But Mess With My Labrador Retriever. I mean, it was originally a 1999 film that featured a strong, feminist leading character — way before metoo movement, SJWs, and political correctness.

It’s aged much better than some of the original Disney classics – if they want to complain on that note. I’m sure the movie will be fine without a couple of characters or the specific love interest. At the same time, I don’t think people should overthink or take the original out of context. There are better examples of awkward, uncomfortable, or forced themes in far older films and animation. I am disappointed with the Mulan trailer. I’m Friendly But Mess With My Labrador Retriever. Aladdin had an Arabian theme with a taste of Disney, but Mulan was purely Chinese and I can’t feel any disney feels at it at all. The black witch was a poor attempt at making it “Disney-like”, and also BS because they removed Mushu to make it “more realistic”.Mulan was always my favorite animated Disney movie, but I am looking forward to the live action version specifically because it is different. I think a lot of things that feel magical and creative in cartoon form just come off as hokey and fake in live action form. Michelle Riordan it never came out fake in Aladdin. I saw a lot of Chinese movies and this one looked like a normal, typical Chinese movie, not a merge of Chinese movie + Disney. And the only thing that made Mulan magical was Mushu.
